Sometimes events converge in dramatically resonant ways. In 2010, Faith Lugazia, a Tanzanian seminary student approached Brick by Brick with the idea of building a preschool for her community way in the northern lake region of Tanzania. Her request coincided with a request from a Sussex, WI area teacher to build a school that respectfully honored Ric Ballin - an inspirational teacher at Sussex High School who had recently passed. A project was born. The Sussex effort took root in a fundraising Walk/Run that raised nearly the complete $6240 cost of a one-room school. The community leaders in Maruku came up with the name of the school which combines a tribal language, Swahili and English, further illustrating the multi-faceted relationships built between nations, cultures and individuals.
